Drive around the Bodrum Peninsula, with high hills, dramatic rock outcrops and surprising marine panoramas. Your first stop is the village of Gumusluk. Gumus is the Turkish word for silver. Thanks to strictly enforced building codes, the seafront has kept its original appearance and photogenic fishing village charm. You will be on an historical ground - the harbour of anicent Myndos - and when the tide is out, you can literally walk to the small island located on the right of the cove. For lunch, continue to Yalikavak once a small sponge-diving village, and today its small but busy harbor shelters visiting yachts and fishing boats cheerfully side-by-side. Yalikavak was first settled in 2000 BC and has ruins from the Greek, Roman and Byzantine eras. After lunch, continue to Golturkbuku a favorite retreat of Turkish artists, actors and entertainers who frequent the many small bars and restaurants at night. Then visit Torba, a little village hidden in a charming bay. Here are the remains of a Byzantine monastery, and a nearby path leads to the next bay ideal for a short stroll. On your way back you will visit a Carpet Workshop where you can see them dying and weaving carpets with an opportunitity to shop afterwards.

Bodrum lies on the site of the ancient Halicarnassus, which was built on the site of the tiny fishing village of Zephyrion. This island is today the peninsula on which the castle now stands. Bodrum is the undisputed "hot-spot" of the Aegean Coast. This swinging, singing and dancing town with its bohemian with its bohemian atmosphere gathers together Turkey's artists, intellectuals and lovers of the good life. Begin you tour from the pier with a 10-minute drive to the medieval castle. The Castle of St. Peter, also known as Bodrum Castle, was built by the Knights of Rhodes. The castle guards the entrance to Bodrum's dazzling blue bay where the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas meet. Rising majestically abofve the harbor, Bodrum was the last output of the knights in Asia Minor until the Ottoman occupation in the 16th century. The inner castle, which houses the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, is reached after passing through seven gates embellished with coats of arms and inscriptions. The museum is recognized as one of the finest of its kind in the world, and contains a myriad of objects discovered by submarine archaeology, including amphorae and large copper ingots recovered from a shipwreck. Next you will see the Mausoleum, which is Bodrum's oldest antiquity and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built by Artemisia II in honor of her husband King Mausolos. The general term for a large tomb is derived from his name. The entire structure stood at over 150 feet tall. The Mausoleum features frescoes and other objects, some of which are now on display at the London Museum. Your final visit on the tour will be to the famous Gold Manufacturer. Some information about gold will be givenm with an opportunity to shop later. As your tour concludes, enjoy the town and waterfront at your leisure, or return directly to the ship.
